A couple weeks ago we moved back to Provo, where the first sparks flew between me and Dan. Moving back has made me think about when we first met, and so I thought it would be fun to make a post about it. Of course, this is my version of the story.. Dan may tell it a little differently.
Dan and I met a little over two years ago through some mutual friends here in good old P-town.. I remember my friend Andrew calling me on a Sunday night while I was sick in bed, telling me that I HAVE to meet his friend that just got off his mission because he is such a STUD. Yes, he really used the word "stud." Reluctantly, I got out of bed and met them in my front room looking and feeling sick and disgusting. Dan seemed like a really nice guy, probably not my type, but really nice.. and I'm pretty sure he was thinking the same about me.
At first we were just acquaintances and would talk a little bit at random get-togethers. As good relationships usually go, the more we hung out, the more attracted we became to each other.
This is at a mocktail party where we played pool together. His hand is the one on the right holding the stick.. I remember seeing him dance that night (he is an amazing dancer when he wants to be) and thinking that I really wanted to dance by him. He claims that he was trying to dance with me but I kept moving away.. so not true!
Here we are at a volleyball game..
And this is at Scott's birthday party where Dan was telling me about all his girl troubles.. all the while I was thinking, "if you would just date me, you wouldn't have any girl troubles!"
Then, one Saturday in March, a group of us went to a snowboarding competition in Park City (yes, Shaun White was there and he was amazing!). I decided to go last minute and was looking pretty horrible that morning! My hair hadn't been washed in a few days so my roommate, Kristy, dressed me up in her beanie and hoody and we were set to go. That was the first time that me and Dan really got to talk and flirt.. he even let me have a bite of his sandwich! Yum! Later that day we all met up at our ward talent show, followed by a night of long boarding. The moment that I really fell head over heels for this guy was while I was standing on the sidewalk that night. Suddenly, Dan came zooming by on his long board, swooped me up, and held me on the board with him! That's when I knew I had a major crush! A man who could actually pick me up like I was nothing?! And I wasn't freaking out telling him to put me down?! And he did it while riding a long board??!! He must be the one!
Here are a couple pictures of that day..
The group at the snowboarding competition.
I thought we were taking a picture with Shaun White, but that doesn't look like him at all, does it?
Sparks were flying!
On the way home with our awesome friend, Jake.
The next weekend he kissed me, and we eventually became "official".
The first thing that attracted me to Dan (besides his amazingly good looks) was his crazy-fun personality. No matter what we were doing, he always seemed to be enjoying it with a big smile on his face. He always made sure he, and everyone else, were having a good time. Also, he is amazing at volleyball, which is the only sport I'm good at, so that was obviously a huge plus!
A few months later we realized that we couldn't live without each other, and so he proposed. Going along with his fun and imaginative personality, Dan went all-out on the proposal..
Soon after that we were married in the Draper Temple.
I kept thinking, "He is officially mine!"
You can imagine how excited I was :)
Dan has made me one of the happiest girls alive! The more we spend time together, the more I learn about how caring, selfless, fun, imaginative, and motivated he really is. I am so blessed to have him as my eternal companion and best friend! And I am so glad that Logan gets him as his dad!
